Otoch Beek

This is a good value option en-route to Calakmul. The rooms are basic but good, we were given a packed breakfast as we were leaving early for Calakmul. It is a little close to the main road but we werent disturbed at night. The local Mayan temples (Becan) are also worth a visit. We ate at Restaurante Al Xital - very good, especially considering the location.

It's too pricey. The rooster wine us up several times in the middle of the night. BUT It's a nice house half surrounded by a beautiful garden. It's a good base is you like to visit Calakmul. The host ist very friendly and attentive.

We had cell service here, which was a nice surprise. A/C and hot water, although the water pressure low, so I used a cup to help wash my hair, but still for $30ish US we got toast, fruit and coffe included for breakfast, and are walking distance to ruins. Friendly host, speaks a little English. Simple and clean. Beautiful, well maintained garden surrounding the house. We thought it was a bargin. The house is a block further down from the Google maps location, away from the restaurant. There is a sign.

very good place for vacations. Everyone has its own patio where you can have breakfast or chat with your partner while enjoy the nature. The courtyard is also equipped with some hanging chairs. There's also a cute rabbit jumping around looking for food. There is also a good restaurant nearby, which makes your stay more convenient. (from Xpujil to Becan costs 15peso/person or 70peso/car-->according to our experience)

The caretaker was a very nice guy. The room had a few problems, there is literally only 2 electrical outlets in the whole room, and the ants, hundreds of them invaded. Also they didn’t give us towels. Overall it was a cheap place to stay, and the AC worked, so I can’t complain too much, just don’t have high expectations

The owners are fantastic and the place is rustic and very pretty. They also have a good restaurant on site. The rooms are simple, but adequate. I would stay here again.

Otoch Béek was a pleasant stay. There seems to be at least 2 duplexes on the beautifully landscaped property that is set aside for backpackers and weary travelers. The price we paid was around $30 US and totally worth it. Our hostess was super nice. We could communicate in English. There was a gentleman on the property constantly working to make everything maintained. The cat on the property, Mischa, is currently pregnant and found a warm place in my lap during our complimentary breakfast. Everything is so peaceful, I thought I’d never leave. I can tell this place is a labor of love and still in progress of being even better. The only downside, and I only mention it to set expectations to those that read this review. The room is small. Think private room Hostel with private bath. The bathroom is larger than you would expect. The water pressure is minimal for the shower, and there is electricity charging it so be careful if you try and change the shower head. My “current” suggestion is just don’t touch it. The bed sheets were just a bit small for the bed, but the bed and pillows were super comfortable. The choice of our pillow cases were more for decoration and pretty, with big decorative buttons on one side. And only one easily accessible plug to charge phones and electronics. We did have cell service and I would definitely stay here again. I look forward to seeing how the property develops and of course getting to see me new friend “Mischa”.

Simple but lovely bungalows on the road to Calakmul ruins. The owner is very friendly and helped us to organise our visit to Calakmul with a private chauffeur. The bungalows are basic but have warm water, fridge and a lovely veranda and gardens with hammoks. We even got a simple but tasty breakfast. Lovely!
